Common side effects

What are the most commonly reported side effects of HRT?

Some women experience unwanted effects from HRT especially when it is first started. Breast tenderness and swelling from water retention can occur, as can leg cramps. Slight feelings of nausea have also been reported. Some women find they experience more headaches than usual or become irritable. These effects tend to disappear with time or with a change to a different dose, another type of oestrogen or progestogen or a different HRT delivery method, e.g., a skin patch instead of tablets.
